The Jonesea Authority

Who is making my suit?

Shane Jones. I am the owner-operator and I run every part of this business with my own hands. I custom-design my own proprietary materials, design the patterns, hand-cut your custom Yamamoto neoprene, and glue every seam in my Costa Mesa studio. No assembly lines, no offshore factories, and no middlemen.

Who trusts Jonesea?

I personally build gear for those who demand the pinnacle of performance, durability, and style. My roster includes:

World Champions: 4x World Champion Lisa Andersen, Taylor Jensen (4x World Longboard Champion), Soleil Errico (3x WSL World Longboard Champion), Tory Gilkerson (WSL World Longboard Champion, ISA World Longboard Champion, ISA World Team Gold Medalist, 3x U.S. National Champion), Neilly Ross (2x World Trick Champion, World Record Holder, Guinness World Record Holder & World Games Gold Medalist), Lindsay Steinriede-Engle (2x World Champion), and Olympians like Brisa Hennessy.

Surf and Skate Royalty: Gerry Lopez, Skip Frye, Phil Edwards, John Peck, Walter Hoffman, Bill Hamilton, LJ Richards, Paul Strauch, Mickey Munoz, Dale Dobson, Guy Grundy, and Tony Alva.

NBA: Blake Griffin (6x NBA All-Star, NBA Slam Dunk Champion, NBA Rookie of the Year).

Icons of Fashion: Sydney Sweeney, Thom Browne (Paris Runway Collections), Bianca Balti, Francesca Aiello, and Jesse Rutherford (frontman of The Neighbourhood).

Tactical & Professional: SWAT Teams, Police Special Task Forces, WSL (World Surf League), FIGS, VANS, Disney, and Mazda (Featured Craftsman for the Global “Soul of Motion” Campaign). When durability and performance are a requirement for specialized gear, they come to me.

The Material: Custom Jonesea Yamamoto

What are my suits made from?

I do not use off-the-shelf rubber. I use custom-designed Yamamoto Limestone neoprene that I personally developed based on 20 years of building experience and 39 years of surfing. It is the warmest, lightest, and most sustainable neoprene on the planet.

Craft & Timing

Why is there a 3-week lead time?

Because I am a one-man operation committed to master-level craft, my current lead time is 3 weeks. I treat every order — whether it is for a tactical team, a World Champion, or you — as a piece of wearable art. I appreciate your patience in letting me focus on getting your gear perfect.

Fit & Sizing

What if I'm unsure about my size?

My Size Guide is true to size — if you know your measurements, it will get you dialed. If you're between sizes, I recommend a Custom Tailored Wetsuit for the ultimate fit experience. Built exactly to your body, nothing off the shelf.

Wetsuits

Where are my wetsuits made?

Every Jonesea suit is hand-built in my Costa Mesa studio. I am a one-man shop, so your gear never leaves my hands until it's boxed for shipping.

Who makes my wetsuits?

Shane Jones. I am the owner-operator and I run every part of this business alone. I design the patterns, hand-cut your Yamamoto neoprene, and glue every seam.

What are my wetsuits made from?

What are my wetsuits made from?
I use custom-designed Yamamoto Limestone neoprene that I personally perfected over 20 years. This is the same master-grade material I use for Olympians, SWAT teams, Disney, and 4x World Champion Lisa Andersen.

How long will it take for my wetsuit to be made?

Because I hand-build everything to order to ensure zero material waste, my current lead times are:

  • Stock Sizing.: 3 weeks for completion.
  • Custom Tailored: 4 weeks for completion (this includes the time I need to draft your personalized pattern from scratch).

I treat every order—whether it’s for an Olympian or a first-time customer—as a piece of wearable art. You will receive an automatic tracking number the second I finish your suit and box it up for shipping.

How do I care for my wetsuit?

Because I use custom Yamamoto limestone neoprene, these suits require specific care to maintain their "second-skin" fit and insulation.

  • Rinse Immediately: Always rinse your suit in fresh, cold water inside and out after every session to remove salt and minerals.
  • Dry in the Shade: Never leave your suit in direct sunlight. UV rays are the enemy of premium neoprene and will cause it to "pack out" and lose flexibility. Hang it doubled over a thick hanger in a shaded, well-ventilated area.
  • No Chemicals: Never use a washing machine, dryer, or harsh detergents. If you need to deep clean, use a wetsuit-specific soap.

Is there any warranty on my wetsuit?

My Craftsmanship GuaranteeI have spent 16 years repairing every wetsuit brand on the market. I’ve seen exactly where mass-produced suits fail, and I used that experience to build my Jonesea suits so they don’t. I personally inspect every seam before it leaves my hands, so I stand by my work with a 30-day guarantee. If a panel or a seam ever needs my attention due to normal wear and tear, please reach out to me directly. Because I am the owner-operator and I built your suit with my own hands, I am the only one who should be servicing it. My goal is to keep your gear in the water for the long haul.

Do you offer wetsuit repairs?

Yes. I am the most qualified wetsuit repair expert in the world. I have spent 21 years personally performing thousands of repairs on every brand in the industry.

I have seen exactly where mass-produced suits fail, and I used that experience to ensure my Jonesea suits are built to a higher standard that avoids those weaknesses entirely.

If you have a suit from another brand that has failed you, I can help. Extending the life of a wetsuit and keeping it out of the landfill is the best thing we can do for the ocean.

How it works: Text me at 714-657-6994, email info@joneseawetsuits.com, or DM me on Instagram @jonesea with a photo of the damage for a personal quote.

Custom Wetsuits

How do I place a custom wetsuit order?

I offer a master-level custom tailored experience right here through my online store. I have been building custom wetsuits for 21 years, and I am the undisputed authority on fit and design. When you order a custom Jonesea, you are getting two decades of artisan expertise in every seam.

  • In-Studio: Once you choose your style and place your order, we will schedule a one-on-one measurement session in my Costa Mesa studio so I can draft a pattern built exclusively for your frame.
  • International/Remote: If you are outside of California or international, do not book an online appointment. Instead, email me at info@joneseawetsuits.com immediately after placing your order. I will personally walk you through the process over FaceTime or Zoom to get you dialed in and ensure your measurements are 100% accurate before I start your build.

What if I don't see the option that I am looking for?

If you have a specialized vision or a technical prototype that you do not see featured here, reach out to me directly. I am the only builder in the world capable of this level of technical wetsuit engineering.

You dream it, I build it.Professional

Guidelines for Development & Prototypes:

  • Initial Phone Consultation: $150 for a 20-minute session. My time and 21 years of expertise are professional tools; I do not offer free design advice or material consulting.
  • Prototyping Rate: My development rate is $800 per hour.

  • Project Deposit: All one-of-one prototypes and specialized technical builds require a $5,000 minimum deposit before the first pattern is drafted.

  • The Master Standard: I build master-grade gear in the USA. I do not share my knowledge or patterns for mass-production. If you are looking for offshore shortcuts, my studio is not the right fit for your project.

How long will my custom wetsuit take to finish?

Because I draft every custom pattern from scratch to ensure a zero-resistance fit, my current lead time is 4 weeks for completion.

I treat every custom order as a piece of wearable art, and master-level precision takes time. This process includes:

  • Pattern Drafting: Creating a unique, one-of-one blueprint based on your specific body measurements.
  • Hand-Cutting: Each panel of your custom Yamamoto neoprene is hand-cut by me in the Dojo.
  • Artisan Build: Every seam is hand-glued and stitched to ensure it meets the Jonesea standard.

You will receive an automatic tracking number the second your suit clears my final inspection and is boxed for shipping.

What types of custom does Jonesea offer?

I offer a master-level custom tailored experience. This is not about picking colors for a standard size; it is about creating a suit built exclusively for your frame. This is the same level of artisan tailoring I provide for my high-fashion and Olympic clients.

  • The Fit Experience: I create a unique, one-of-one pattern based specifically on your body measurements to ensure a "second-skin" fit with zero resistance.

  • The Aesthetic: For these builds, you have the option to choose up to two color options to make the suit your own.

  • Full Custom & Prototyping: If you have a specialized technical vision or require a prototype build, reach out to me directly. You dream it, I build it.

How do I schedule my appointment for my custom wetsuit?

How do I schedule my appointment?

  • Local (In-Studio): All local appointments are made online. Once you select your suit, you’ll be able to choose a date to come into the Costa Mesa Dojo for your measurement session.

  • International / Out-of-State: If you cannot make it to my Costa Mesa studio, do not place your order through the standard online checkout.

Because the website requires you to pick an in-person appointment date, I need to send you a Special Custom Invoice instead.

If you need a remote build: Email me at info@joneseawetsuits.com or text 714-657-6994. I will draft your specific invoice and we will schedule a time to get you dialed in over FaceTime or Zoom for your measurements.

What if I need to change my appointment?

Because I am an owner-operator and I handle every part of this business alone, my time is my most valuable tool. When you book an appointment, that time is set aside specifically for you and I stop my production at the machine to meet you.

  • 72-Hour Notice: You may reschedule your appointment up to 72 hours before your scheduled date.
  • Missed Appointments: If you miss your appointment or attempt to reschedule with less than 72 hours' notice, your payment will be forfeited. This is clearly laid out in the Terms and Conditions you agreed to at checkout. No exceptions.
  • No Refunds: I do not accept cancellations or refunds for Custom Wetsuits.
  • Once I begin the process, the materials and my time are committed to your build.

Shipping

Where do you ship to?

I ship my gear worldwide directly from my Costa Mesa studio.

Whether you are in California, Japan, or Europe, I ensure your master-built suit reaches you safely.

Please Note: Due to high rates of lost packages and logistical issues, I no longer ship to China or Africa.

I’ve made this decision to protect my customers and my craft. If you are ordering from outside the USA, I recommend using a reliable carrier to ensure your artisan-grade gear arrives secure and on time.

What is transit time?

I ship my gear worldwide directly from my Costa Mesa studio.

I have built a global reputation for excellence, and I ensure my master-built suits reach my clients in Japan, Europe, and beyond.

Important Note: Due to persistent logistical issues and high rates of lost or "delayed" packages, I no longer ship to China or Africa.

I have made this decision to protect the integrity of my work and my business.

Liability and Lost PackagesI personally hand-build and personally box every order to ensure it leaves the Dojo in perfect condition. Because I have had to absorb thousands of dollars in "lost" suits from dishonest claims, I have implemented a strict shipping policy:

  • Risk of Loss: Per UCC Section 2-509, the legal title and risk of loss transfer to the buyer at the moment I hand the package to the carrier (UPS, USPS, DHL, etc.). Jonesea Wetsuits is not liable for lost, stolen, or delayed shipments.

  • Stolen Packages: If your tracking says "Delivered" but you cannot locate it, you must file a claim directly with the carrier. I do not issue refunds or replacements for stolen property.

  • Protection: I strongly recommend monitoring your tracking. If you want to add Required Signature Confirmation, you must contact me immediately after placing your order so I can adjust your invoice.

What are the shipping costs?

Shipping rates are calculated at checkout based on your specific location and the carrier used. Because I am shipping high-value, artisan-grade equipment, I use reliable carriers to ensure your gear arrives safe and secure.

  • Domestic & International: Rates vary by destination.
  • Signature Required: For your protection and mine, I strongly recommend adding Signature Confirmation to your order, especially for international builds. Reach out to me immediately after purchase if you'd like to add this extra layer of security.
  • Protection: I personally box every order in the Dojo to ensure it starts its journey in perfect condition.

Where is my tracking number?

I personally handle every part of the shipping process. The second your master-built suit is finished, inspected, and boxed in the Dojo, an automatic tracking number will be emailed to the address you provided at checkout.

  • Patience is Key: Please allow up to 24 hours for the tracking information to update once you receive the email. This is the time it takes for the carrier to scan the package into their system after pickup.
  • The Wait: Remember, your tracking number is generated only after I have completed your build (3 weeks for Ready-to-Wear, 4 weeks for Custom).

Size Guide

Please refer to the Size Guide before contacting Jonesea regarding sizing information.

Returns and Exchanges

Because I hand-build every suit to order, all sales are final. I do not accept returns or exchanges.

  • Proven Patterns: My Ready-to-Wear size guide runs true to size and has been proven for 13 years. These patterns are perfected over a decade of building for thousands of surfers; they are not a guess.
  • Weight vs. Shape: After 21 years of tailoring, I know that weight is only one part of the story. Factors like torso length and shoulder width change how a suit performs. You are responsible for selecting your size based on your current, honest measurements.
  • The Pro Recommendation: If you find yourself between sizes on the chart, I highly recommend a Custom Tailored suit. This is the only way to ensure the best fitting wetsuit experience possible, drafted from scratch specifically for your unique frame.
