I'm the creator, designer, and tailor behind Jonesea Wetsuits. Born and raised in Orange County, California, I have been surfing and competing for nearly 40 years. That experience gives me a deep understanding of exactly what a surfer needs from their gear.

I started Jonesea because I saw a void in the market for wetsuits that were functional, stylish, and built to last. I realized I had the knowledge and skill to build them the way I believed they should be made, so I decided to do it myself.

Hi! I’m Shane.

I’m Shane Jones, founder, designer, and wetsuit maker behind Jonesea. Born and raised in Orange County, California, I’ve spent nearly 40 years in the water and more than 20 years designing, pattern making, constructing, and repairing wetsuits by hand.

Over that time, I’ve personally made thousands of wetsuits for surfing, diving, freediving, paddling, competition, and specialized technical applications. I’ve also spent more than 14 years developing and importing custom neoprene, giving me an understanding of wetsuits that extends from the raw material and pattern to the finished suit and how it performs in the water.

I started Jonesea because I believed wetsuits could be made better. Better fitting, better looking, and built with a level of craftsmanship that gets lost in mass production.

Today, I still make every Jonesea wetsuit myself in my Costa Mesa studio.

There are no assembly lines and no handoffs between departments. One craftsman builds your wetsuit from pattern to finished suit.

My wetsuits have been built for some of the most accomplished people in surfing and watersports, from pioneers Gerry Lopez, John Peck, Walter Hoffman, Mickey Munoz, Phil Edwards, and Skip Frye to world champions Lisa Andersen, Tom Carroll, Soleil Errico, Lindsay Steinriede-Engle, Tory Gilkerson, Olympian Brisa Hennessy, world champion and world-record-holding water skier Neilly Ross, and professional surfer Sterling Spencer.

My work extends beyond the water. I’ve built specialized pieces for Thom Browne, Disney, Sydney Sweeney, Bianca Balti, Francesca Aiello, Blake Griffin, and skateboarding legend Tony Alva, as well as technical equipment for Navy Seals and police SWAT units.

Jonesea has been featured in Vogue, The New York Times, Rolling Stone, and Safari Magazine.

Every one of those pieces was built the same way yours will be: by my hands, in my Costa Mesa studio.

Built for performance.

For more than 20 years, I’ve designed, patterned, built, and repaired wetsuits by hand, and for more than 14 years I’ve developed and imported custom neoprene. That experience has taught me how rubber density, stretch, thickness, lamination, panel design, seam placement, and construction work together in a finished wetsuit.

My custom limestone neoprene was developed exclusively for Jonesea around that knowledge. Soft, lightweight, warm, and highly flexible, it’s selected and specified to move naturally with the body while providing the insulation and durability required in the water.

Nearly 40 years of surfing and competing gives me the other half of the equation. I know how a wetsuit needs to paddle, flex, recover, hold warmth, and disappear on the body because I build from both sides of the wetsuit: as the craftsman making it and the waterman wearing it.
